About Me

About Me
Me and the PGA Pro’s at PGAHOPE Graduation! Ignore how we are dressed, no was expecting Florida Freezing temperatures that morning.

I’m Brandon Garner.

My first time playing golf happened because of my friend Joe.

Three years ago, he trusted me with his grandfather’s clubs — and has patiently put up with my inconsistent golf ever since. That generosity mattered more than the equipment, and it’s where this whole thing started.

I recently retired from the Army after 25 years of service. When I transitioned into the defense industry, I was quickly reminded that golf is part of the professional landscape. On my second day at work, the CEO insisted I represent the company in a golf scramble. I tried to explain that I didn’t golf. She insisted anyway.

So I played.

What I didn’t know at the time was that moment would start a journey I genuinely enjoy. Golf became something I could do alone or with others — friends, coworkers, or strangers who usually don’t stay strangers by the end of the round. For me, it’s therapy. Quiet when I need it to be, social when I want it to be.

More recently, during a furlough, I had the opportunity to complete the PGA HOPE program. It was phenomenal. The instructors were professional, patient, and focused on building a playable swing around my limited mobility — not forcing something that didn’t fit.

That approach stuck with me.

It’s also the philosophy behind FGGC.

FGGC exists because there’s a lot of good golf information out there — and a lot of noise.

This site is a filter.

I don’t review products.

I don’t sell instruction.

I don’t chase trends.

I collect things worth reading, watching, or thinking about — and let you decide what to do with them.

I’m a regular golfer. I test ideas. I change my mind.

When something matters, it shows up here.

What I’m Working On

Swing

  • Good news is the last 30 days I only hit a slice. The bad news is I can’t get rid of it.
  • Club head is staying open.
  • Swing the Clubhead
  • Less manipulation, better contact
  • Accepting small distance loss in exchange for repeatability

Practice

  • Shorter swings
  • Ball-first contact
  • Neutral face through impact
  • Playing golf, not perfect golf

Scoring Reality

  • Official USGA handicap: 18.2
  • Goal: hit more greens, manage misses, stop pretending distance is the problem

Who I’m Learning From (At the Moment)

(Exploration, not endorsement.)

  • Manuel De La Torre - Understanding the Golf Swing
  • George Knudson – The Natural Golf Swing
  • Real-golfer experimentation — try it, keep what works

Different ideas. Same ball.

What FGGC Is (and Isn’t)

It is:

  • A curated repository of golf links
  • Instruction, equipment, books, videos, and podcasts
  • Updated when it matters

It is not:

  • My reviews
  • A coaching site
  • Affiliate bait
  • A comment section

Reviews, but not by me.
